It was late afternoon, when Theseus left the security of the herd and went on his long planned adventure. He didnt have guard patrol the next few days, so he had asked his superior for some time off to go see The Ash Plains. The superior had agreed. His father hadnt liked the idea of his son wandering off though, but Theseus for once won the fight.
You always say I need to learn more, be faster and stronger, to experience the world around us and learn how to big a good soldier, Theseus had argued. The Ash Plains are a big part of Fawnling history, and being out there on my own for a few days will teach me independence and make me stronger.
Hrmf, mumbled his father. I think you for once got more than enough independence; Id just wish you would do more useful things with it, kid. The big stag scratched and old war scar on his flank, then looked down at his golden son. Ay, maybe youll actually get to learn some things out there. So you go now. But dont you dare stay away for longer than your superior has agreed to!
I wont, Theseus had promised and then took off.
The hike to the Plains took over half a day from the herd. Theseus didnt rest to sleep, but continued trotting at a low pace during the night or walk when he needed rest. As the sun got low and the moon ascended, he watched other animals go to rest and yet others awakening to go hunting. Curious little critters watch him from above with golden eyes glistening like little stars, when the night fell upon the forest. He even heard a wolf howl, but it was far away. Maybe all the way over near Blackwood borders.
At daybreak he reached the Plains.
Theseus emerged from the forest and climbed the small hill in front of him. Beneath him The Ash Plains stretch out in endless glory, glooming in the morning sun. He had finally reached the place he had only heard of in stories and always dreamed to see. The very end of his homeland territory.
With his head held high, Theseus closed his eyes and drank in the warm spring breeze. He could smell the long grass that whispered below him as a giant green sea. He could smell the damp air from the woods behind him and the reminiscence of other animals crossing this path.
This is gorgeous! All these fawnlings are making me twitchy to do some Ayrintili art, but especially this one. I know they're not at all the same breeds, but they do have some similarities, and the pose and general silhouette of this one just screams those similarities at me lol Might have to do some Ayrintili doodles now!
